Prof. Tango
My name is Antonio Thomas but I go by Tango. It is okay for students to call me
Tango. I have a passion for learning and like you, I am still in school. Currently
I am in a doctoral program pursing a Ph. D in Education. My specialization is
Education Technology. My research interest revolves around finding innovative
ways of getting students to be successful with their academics. In other words, how
can we get students to learn course content in which they have no real desire
to learn? More specifically, can this be accomplished using technology which is
familiar to the student rather than the professor? “What we have is 20th
Century teachers using 19th Century methods to teach 21st Century students”
(Marc Aronson overheard this comment from a committed teacher talking with her
fellow educators at a conference). For me, this quote says it all and has
become the driving force behind my research interest. This has lead me to
focus on the learning that occurs while people are playing video
games.
My dedication to student success and this course will be no exception. However,
student success depends on both sides working together as a team. This means
students need take responsibility for their learning and participate while the professor
must provide a positive and active learning environment. As we start this educational
journey together, ponder how you are currently applying critical thinking to your
everyday life. How will you create a game that will appeal to the masses?
Hopefully, by the end of this course you will be able to answer these
questions.
